Brothers & Sisters

The Bargaining Committee met with the Company this morning, to inform us of the Reduction in Force at Evendale and Erlanger. The headcount reduction will be as follows: Evendale (52) R-16 Multi Services, (9) R-21 Production Cell Machine Operators (PCMO) and (3) R-23 Inspector Technical. Erlanger: (54) R-16 Material Handler.

This is not the news that I wanted to ever share; however, it is the news the UAW has received. If you are in a Classification affected by the reduction and age 60 or older with 15 or more years continuous service, you will be eligible for the Special Retirement Bonus Option. You will need to fill out the proper paperwork in hourly placement no later than Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

The first bump sheet will be out in Evendale on 5-22-2020. The Revision will be out on 5-29-2020 with an effective layoff date of Monday, June 8, 2020. If you have any questions, please find your Steward or Committeeperson. For the ones that will be affected by this reduction please know that you are not alone, and UAW Local 647 will fight everyday too see that all of you return.

Lastly, I want to thank the Bargaining Committee, they have worked tirelessly over the last couple of months. We will continue to work tirelessly, on your behalf.

Brothers & Sisters

April 28th, 2020 the UAW and Unions across our Nation will observe Worker's Memorial Day. UAW Local 647 has a proud tradition of holding a Worker's Memorial each year in honoring those who have died on the job, due to workplace injuries, or workplace illnesses. Obviously, due to the COVID-19, this year’s remembrance has been canceled, because of the pandemic.

Our work must go on! Each day we must mourn for the dead and fight for the living. Each day we must remember our Brothers and Sisters who have lost their lives at work, assess the progress we have made since the establishment of OSHA and each day we must rededicate ourselves to achieving what is necessary to ensure that everyone who goes to work each day returns home safely. We must set expectations that everyone who works for a living can enjoy the years of retirement in good health.

We owe this commitment to our families, ourselves, and each other. You are the Union and we are our Brother and Sisters keeper. As we honor those who have passed due to workplace illnesses or injuries, our work is in each day.

We must renew our expectations, stand together on the ongoing attacks on workers rights and protections, and challenge elected officials to put our safety first. This is accomplished by our perseverance and expectations. Today and each day we will fight for the rights of every worker for a safe workplace, honoring those who have died due to workplace injuries or illnesses.

Greetings Brothers and Sisters

Covid-19 Update:

We have been in discussions with the Company almost daily over the last two weeks. Obviously, by now everyone has seen the announcement made by David Joyce on Monday. That begs the question, “what does this mean for our site?” As of 3-26-2020, the Company has not given us that information. I know that there are a lot of rumors going around but let’s not speculate until we hear the facts.

I’ve heard about other Aviation Production sites shutting down for four (4) weeks beginning Monday. This has not been officially announced by the Company. Let’s let the facts come out and try to work through this together.

I know everyone is on edge about all of this. I want the answers to these questions just like everyone else. As soon as we hear them from the Company, we will relay them.

As I’ve said before, The World, Our Country, and Our Membership is going through unprecedented times. Let us get the facts and share them with you as soon as we receive them.

GE Aviation Communication 03/22/2020

Here are the highlights from an email sent out today from GE Aviation.

Today, the State of Ohio issued COVID-19 guidance, referred to as a “stay at home” directive requiring all persons stay at home unless engaged in essential work, that takes effect on Tuesday, March 24 through Monday, April 6.

Ohio’s essential work definition includes the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) guidance that includes GE Aviation as falling under the Critical Manufacturing Sector.

We expect to remain open and operational and will continue to communicate to you as the situation changes.

Greetings Brothers and Sisters

Considering our current situation, thought it would be a nice to see some positive news. Click here to view a few of the pictures of the updated banquet hall. This project has been led from the start by Brother Bill Reynolds but let’s not forget the Brothers and Sisters that helped him accomplish this. Their help and sacrifice of their own time are just a great example of what we can accomplish if we all work together toward one common goal! If you haven’t seen it in person yet, stop by and see it. Lastly, if you know someone looking for a banquet hall for an event, please keep our hall in mind. From an economic standpoint it will help us to rent it as much as possible. I realize right now isn’t a great time to be talking about hall rentals, but we will get through this and back to a new normal hopefully sooner than later.

Thanks for your continued support.

A Letter from the President

The company and the union are in daily discussions to try and stay somewhat in front of the ever-changing restrictions and new CDC guidelines. As I said in my update, our Membership Health and Safety is our top priority. I also realize that there are many different situations that may come up throughout all of this. If you have any questions regarding if and when you should quarantine, please contact your Committeeperson or Supervisor.

I would like to thank the Bargaining Committee. Just know that they are working tirelessly to answer all your questions. Please also understand that neither they nor I have the answer to every question right now. We are truly in unprecedented times that I personally have not seen in my life.
